What started as a simple, single store family jeweller, is now one of South Africa’s most successful and well-loved luxury brands, with outlets across South Africa and
the United Kingdom, including one on London’s prestigious Bond Street.

Born to parents Ben and Myra, Larry grew up in Johannesburg, one of four boys. A close-knit family, Larry was strongly influenced and inspired by his grandparents Jack
and Kate. Jack, a talented goldsmith nurtured Larry’s natural eye for design, teaching him all there was to know about diamonds and fine jewellery.
Kate was a woman ahead of her time and believed that the health of a business and that of the wider community were inextricably bound. Business, she insisted, had a moral
obligation not only to its employees but also to the wider community and the environment. Jack and Kate’s influence left a lasting impression on Larry, propelling him ever
closer towards his destiny and after graduating from university where he qualified as a chartered accountant, Larry was officially appointed as Managing Director of the
family’s jewellery business.
Ambitious and passionate, Larry’s innovative spirit and unique ideas allowed him to begin rapidly creating a brand. With a solid foundation built on the principles of trust,
quality and value for money he turned to design, introducing the first ever iconic solitaire diamond setting, The Protea. Inspired by his grandparents’ story he also began
incorporating the now unmistakable rose-gold angel, a symbol of love and protection, into many of The Browns designs.
