Natural Diamonds
Natural Only, Here's Why
- An engagement ring must symbolise your love - real, rare and valuable.
- Give her a ring that will make her proud. Always go for a natural diamond to avoid any awkwardness when people ask “Is it real?”
- A ring is a reflection of your love and what you feel for her, she will wear it for the rest of your lives together.
- Natural diamonds are heirlooms. One day your grandchildren are going to benefit from your values and choices.
- The natural diamond industry is responsible for feeding and educating of millions of children in Africa.
- We commend the French authorities, as well as those of many other countries, for its decision to ban the use of terminology other than “synthetic” for non-natural diamonds.
Lab grown diamonds are counterfeits.
counterfeit /ˈkaʊntəfɪt/
Adjective
Made to look exactly like something in order to trick people into thinking that they are getting the real thing.
Myths to be dispelled
- Huge amounts of electricity are required to produce lab-grown diamonds. Don’t buy the hocus pocus, there is nothing ethical or sustainable about them.
- Our inspiration for design has always been our heritage and nature. That is why diamonds made by Mother Nature always trump those made in China.
- It’s a myth that diamond mining is unethical. This is an outdated concept sensationalised by Hollywood. The truth is that the industry is responsible and contributes to the upliftment of local communities which otherwise would be considerably worse off.
WHY NATURAL DIAMONDS ARE THE BEST CHOICE
- 95% of women would rather be surprised with a natural diamond than be dragged off jewellery shopping, only to be coerced into a counterfeit diamond.
- We believe in the value of natural diamonds. So much so that we put our money where our mouth is and offer a Five-Year Buy-Back guarantee as well as a Diamond Investment Programme.
- The diamond market has recently corrected. Now is the best time to buy.
- If budget is your problem, remember she’d prefer a smaller natural diamond than a bigger counterfeit one. If you absolutely can’t afford one, rather buy an honest cubic zirconia or even get a tattoo.
- It’s widely acknowledged that communicating real love to your partner is the best investment you can ever make.
Why Browns made the decision NOT to keep lab-grown diamonds
“We feel passionate about relationships and guiding young couples in ensuring they do not get misled into making a decision which may erode the fabric of their relationship.
As a company, we could easily have made the mistake that many other jewellers have and taken on lab growns. But, in our heart of hearts we believe this would have been immoral, unethical and a disservice to our clients.”
- Larry Brown
Real, Rare, Responsible
Browns diamonds are ethically sourced with traceable origins, and are certified as conflict-free. When it comes to sourcing gold and platinum, ethical and environmentally sustainable practices are of paramount importance to us.
We are different to other jewellers in many ways. One of our long-standing philosophies is that we only use natural diamonds.
Never synthetics, never lab grown and never fakes.
You can rest assured that all our diamonds are traceable and responsibly sourced.
The 8C's of a browns diamond
Less than 2% of the world's diamonds qualify to be a Browns diamond.
1. Carat
Carat represents the weight of a diamond, not the size. This is why a 1 carat can vary in its surface area from one diamond to another
2. Cut
All Browns diamonds have 'excellent' and 'very good' cuts, meaning that the symmetry, polish and cut are of the highest precision. At Browns our diamonds are cut to maximise the brilliance, not the size.
Be careful of badly cut diamonds, anything less than very good compromises the diamond’s scintillation.
3. Clarity
At Browns we only offer diamonds with a clarity of SI1 and higher, because we are uncompromising when it comes to beauty.
Be careful of a diamond with a poor clarity grade, excessive inclusions directly affect the brilliance.
4. Colour
At Browns we only accept diamonds with a colour grade of I and higher. Our diamond colour grades are premium white and exceptional white.
Diamonds with a poor colour grade can appear slightly yellow instead of the desired brilliant white.
5. Certification
Browns offers confidence through dual certification and serialisation.
All of our engagement rings are engraved with a unique identity number. This number is cross referenced with the Browns Jewellery Certificate and the Independent Diamond Certificate (for all diamonds over 1 carat). This gives you the peace of mind that the diamond you purchase is the diamond you are actually getting.
6. Contour
At Browns we pay special attention to the golden ratios, thereby ensuring that every diamond is perfectly proportioned to maximise its natural beauty.
Be careful of diamonds that are not cut to proportion. Often round diamonds are not perfectly round.
7. Character
We focus on every diamond’s unique characteristics. In this way the 8C’s come together in perfect harmony, resulting in the ultimate balance and beauty of a diamond.
In order to ensure balance we categorise our diamonds into excellent, exceptional and extraordinary.
8. Created By Nature
At Browns we only sell natural diamonds. Our diamonds are ethically and responsibly sourced, mainly from Southern Africa, creating over 1 million jobs.
